Luis Gil (lat) faced hitters on Saturday in a live batting practice session at Yankee Stadium.

Gil progressed to facing hitters for the first time since suffering a lat strain back in late February. MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch adds that the 27-year-old righty’s fastball was in the mid-90’s during the session. He’ll presumably be ready to kick off an extended rehab assignment at some point in the coming weeks, which gives him a chance to make it back to New York’s rotation by the end of July.

Giancarlo Stanton is not in the lineup for Saturday afternoon’s matinee against the Orioles.

Stanton has gotten off to a nice start, hitting .333 (5-for-15) with one RBI in five games since returning earlier this week from the injured list to make his season debut. The 35-year-old veteran masher has been on the bench in two of New York’s past four contests as the club continues to rotate Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Jasson Domínguez between the corner outfield spots. It’s Judge at DH on Saturday afternoon with Bellinger heading out to right field and Domínguez patrolling left field. Ben Rice is at first base getting a chance to face Orioles righty Zach Eflin with veteran Paul Goldschmidt on the bench.

Aaron Judge went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk on Friday against the Orioles.

Before this game, Judge was stuck in his worst slump of the season. He’d gone just 3-for-29 with strikeouts in more than half of his plate appearances over the last week. That feels over now with this three-hit performance. He’s still unquestionably the best hitter in baseball with a freakish .372 batting average, 1.207 OPS, and 28 home runs before the end of June.

Max Fried allowed seven hits and three runs with seven strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision against the Orioles on Friday.

Fried looked mortal here relative to how well he’s pitched this season. The Orioles sent seven men to the plate in the first inning and scratched two runs across. Then, they tied the game in the sixth inning and cost Fried the win. He didn’t seem comfortable with either of his sliders here and really leaned on his cutter and curveball, which combined to make up 64% of all the pitches he threw. Nevertheless, his next start is scheduled to come on the road against the Reds.

Cody Bellinger is absent from the Yankees’ starting lineup for Friday night’s soiree against the Orioles.

It looks to be just a regular night of rest for the 29-year-old slugger. Jasson Dominguez will start in his place in left field and will bat sixth for the Bombers against Orioles’ right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano on Friday evening in the Bronx.

Yankees activated RHP Luke Weaver off the 15-day injured list.

As expected, Weaver is back after missing just under three weeks with his hamstring strain. The 31-year-old should return as the closer for the Yankees, and offers significant fantasy upside — for a reliever, anyway — as their stopper.

Cam Schlitter fanned nine while allowing two runs over five innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Schlitter outdid Joe Boyle, Logan Henderson and Noah Schultz with his Triple-A-high 19 whiffs in Thursday’s action. He has a 2.37 ERA and an 88/24 K/BB in 68 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A. The Yankees might not have any need for him in the rotation this year, but it’s going to be tempting to try him in the pen in the second half.

Yankees optioned LHP Jayvien Sandridge to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The 26-year-old southpaw just joined the Yankees’ bullpen on Thursday morning. Now he’ll head right back to Triple-A without even appearing in Thursday’s contest against the Angels. The expectation is that right-hander Luke Weaver will be activated from the injured list on Friday to take his place.

Trent Grisham delivered a two-run homer and a double Thursday as the Yankees bested the Angels 7-3.

For the first time all season, Grisham had a sub-.800 OPS at the conclusion of Wednesday’s game. He’s back over that mark now, though, having collected his first homer since May 30 and his second since May 12. He’s likely in store for less playing time now that the Yankees have Giancarlo Stanton back, but the team will still want his glove in center field rather frequently.

Carlos Rodón surrendered three runs in six innings Thursday in a win over the Angels.

Rodón gave up three homers, but he allowed just one other hit, walked one and struck out seven in his seventh quality start and ninth win of the year. He’ll make his next start in Cincinnati, which could lead to more homers. There’s no sitting him down in mixed leagues, though.
